Well, it’s here. The end of the summer. Or at least the beginning of almost back to school. In R-house, we’ve got one more week of freedom, but friends all around us are already headed back.
So last night, as part of wanting to finish well, R-kids and I opened up the screen porch to a little group of our closest neighbors.
We sat, and ate, and drank, and looked each other in the eyes for a few moments, without a windshield or a yard or a list of errands in between us.
It was great.
The neighbors two doors over who are literally still moving furniture and dogs into their sweet new little home even came. And both neighbors with baby doggies. And the ones who used to live three houses down, plus the ones who now live three houses down in the same house. And both neighbors who bookend R-house.
It was a bunch of the people who encircle our family with smiles and care and laughs, who let us bear witness to their lives, who see both our flowers and our weeds, and who watch out for us as we do the same for them.
Here’s to being surrounded by good people, and sitting together with them once in a while.
