A NEW SOULMATE

So the other day, just for fun, I typed a new word into my Craigslist search tab. Anthropologie. Yeah, baby. Home run. This morning I hit refresh on that tab and this is what I saw: *Funky Pair of VINTAGE CHAIRS*Anthropologie*Vintage Modern Living*

Hmmmm. Sounds promising. Let’s click and see what comes up.

I’M SO SORRY FUNKY VINTAGE CHAIRS BUT CAN YOU PLEASE MOVE OUT OF THE WAY? I MUST SEE THAT UTTERLY GORGEOUS, TO-DIE-FOR THING BEHIND YOU!!!

And that’s where it started. My new friendship with a soulmate across town. I immediately sent out a desperate Craigslist reply, something like:

Nice chairs but are you selling the pink couch?!??!?

Even before I hit send, I knew the answer. Who in their right mind would sell that couch? Simultaneously I had this thought: Who is this obviously amazing Craigslist person with the funky chairs and the you’re-killing-me couch and the vintage-modern decor?!

I found out soon enough when I got this reply:

So sorry it is not – maybe someday – but right now I still so love it!

It was signed by Laurie. And of course she still loves it. I wrote back to let Laurie know her taste is impeccable and she’s now a permanent part of my pink-couch quest. Then I started checking this girl out. And wow. Turns out she sells her wares as Vintage Modern Living—all things ultra chic and French and hip and retro and funky and Anthro and lovely! And upholstered in pink, apparently. Here are some other finds on her site. (Alas, she continues to tease me with already SOLD items.)

But after browsing her yummy furniture and accessories on Facebook, Craigslist, and vintagemodernliving.com, I found the best part. Her blog.

I know what you’ll say, Laurie. But I haven’t posted on there for ages!

Doesn’t matter. I see a heart there that has more in common with me than pink couches. In fact, her very words and writing style remind me of someone else whose blog I adore.

I especially savored these lines:
– i am typically “anti-plan” – as i like to just wander…
– …perfect little place – off the beaten path – a little rough around the edges – perfection in my world
– …no guilt – sometimes you just have to have a drink in the afternoon…
– opening the door i have a little joyful intense “ding” – and laugh – loving what i see
– …and then somehow we move comfortably into more – depth, life, love, tragedy, happiness, pain

This is clearly a both/and woman. Girl after my own heart.

When Laurie agreed to let me feature her here on the blog and said – I have a sneaking suspicion we are soul mates!! – she had no idea how right she probably is.

Thanks for giving me that joyful intense “ding” today, Laurie.

And here’s a clear shot of that pink velvet beauty:

Tomorrow I’ll show you the spot in R-house that’s just waiting for a couch like this!
