I’ll be honest. Between all the things I haven’t gotten done around here lately, and all the freelance work I’ve got on my plate, and all the holiday hullabaloo creeping closer and closer, I can feel my heart rate rising. In fact, any hint of Christmas lately has been making me downright crabby. But it appears *that holiday* is coming no matter what I do (or don’t do), so I’m needing a new strategy.
I’ll just be having a conversation with myself here for a moment. Pay no mind…
Yes. The floors have dust bunnies in every corner.
But at least they aren’t mice.
Yes. The tub needs a good scrubbing.
But soap scum is clean, right?
Yes. You’re buried in paperwork.
But the bills are on auto-pay.
Yes. There’s a mountain of clothes to be folded.
But that’s R-girl’s job (hee hee).
Yes. The curtains you’ve been wanting to make for the past 11 months are still not started.
But there’s always the next 11 months.
Yes. R-house needs some new paint and grout and electrical fixtures and other sundries.
But it’s still keeping R-family warm and dry.
Yes. Random stacks of mess seem to be growing like weeds.
But so are R-kids, and these are some days worth treasuring.
Yes. The dinner rotation has become a little redundant.
But no one is going hungry.
Yes. Martha has thoughts on how to host the most fabulous Thanksgiving dinner.
But Ma and Pa offered to host (again), thank God.
Yes. A homemade Christmas gift for everyone (or anyone) this year would be so resourceful and impressive.
But a sweet card and a bottle of wine would probably be just as good.
Yes. The vintage light fixtures in the bathroom have been flickering like disco balls for the past who knows how long, requiring you to apply makeup by the light of a candle (basically).
But this weekend you dug in and spent two hours troubleshooting, and goldarnit, you fixed them. All by yourself.
Ok.
That’s better.

Bring on the holidays, people.
