PRETTY RUGGED

Julie she made itI haven’t done anything that deserved the she made it header in a while. At least I didn’t think I had…

But actually, I have whipped up a couple things that might not live up to Etsy-ish standards but they work for me. Exhibit A: My purse of the moment.

I snagged this “purse” for 50 cents at an estate sale (where else?). It’s actually an old army bag of some sort – and the moment I saw it, I knew it was the perfect canvas for one of my favorite themes:

the masculine/feminine remix.

So I snipped off a few inches of lace ribbon and another few inches of orangey-pink sequin ribbon, hand stitched them to the bag (because I didn’t want to waste time remembering how to thread my rarely used sewing machine…) and called it good.

I should probably add a snap or closing device of some sort, but I’d probably never bother clasping it anyway.

I should probably reinforce the stitching, but I kind of figure if these ribbons fall off, I’ll just add something different.

It’s nowhere near as sturdy, well-made, and lovely as my friend Laura’s versions, which you can see here and here.

But I’m going with it.

It’s the perfect size for my portable essentials, like my journal, my to-go cup sleeve, and sometimes even a bottle of water. It opens easily. The shoulder strap is just the right length.

And it fits me to a tee.

A little banged up.
A little blinged up.
A little junky.
A little Julie.
