You are looking at an actual text I received tonight. It was not a wrong number. It was not a trick, or a deception, or a telemarketer. (All of which I’ve received too many of, unfortunately.)
My neighbor Kari sent that text to me.

Pardon me while I smile.
No really. You have to understand. People who aren’t related to me don’t ask me for recipes. It just doesn’t happen. Probably—mostly—because I never cook. There’s really no point in people asking for the recipe to the bag of chips I brought to the potluck.
So the reason I’m smiling is because a) I cooked something; b) it was made with real ingredients and fresh food; and c) someone thought it was good.
I have two people to thank:
First, Jamie Oliver. He tweeted about a new recipe on his website last week, and here’s how things went from there: I looked it up, my mouth started watering, I printed it out (this is where things usually start falling apart), I went to the store, I remembered my list, I found the ingredients, I brought them home, AND I got around to cooking it before all the herbs and veggies went rotten in my fridge. Amazing. This happens like three times a year for me.
My goal is for it to happen a bit more.
The other person I have to thank is Neighbor Kari herself. I was in the final stretch of the recipe, R-kids were hovering and drooling (because an actual cooked dinner also means a late dinner at our house), and I realized I had just run out of olive oil. I was doubling the recipe and I needed 6 tablespoons! I shot a quick emergency text to Kari and sent R-girl running across the alley. She was back in a flash with a full bottle. Dinner was saved.
So, thanks Jamie and Kari for the great dinner tonight. It was delish, if I don’t say so myself.

pytt i panna (little pieces in a pan) by Jamie Oliver
Oh and by the way. R-girl and I both did this recipe’s raw egg-yolk trick (we each used half a regular egg – I didn’t have quail eggs). I know! It sounds so wrong! But read what Jamie says about it. It was soooo yummy.
