LATE, LATER, AND LATEST (AN UPDATE)

THE LATE:
So the updated registration tabs for my vehicle were due by September 30. I just realized this yesterday. Awesome. The plan was to head out early (OK, noonish) to one of my favorite places on the planet—my local DMV—to clear this up.

THE LATER:
Sometime during the night one of these was placed on my car:

Ticket total: $168. Totally awesome.

THE LATEST:
After waiting in two lines at the DMV and being sent to the court offices, which weren’t open once I got there because they had apparently closed early, and coming back to wait in two more lines at the DMV, I got my tabs today (AND installed them, thank you!). The only problem—other than that huge ticket, which I’m still somewhat in denial about—is that yesterday I had also received a “citation notice” in the mail, which I assumed was related to the overdue tabs, but alas no one at the DMV seems to have any idea what this $100ish citation notice is all about. They were all… “I’ve never seen that before,” and “Hmmm, that’s strange,” and “You’ll probably have to talk to the court offices—they’re closed ’til Monday.”

Sooooo totally awesome.

Let’s recap:
– I’ve been driving around for about 55 days with overdue tabs.
– Until yesterday, I was completely oblivious to this, and so were the police.
– I have a mystery citation that may cost me $100 and may or may not be related to this.
– The very night that I realized I must get my tabs ASAP (and blogged about it), I got a ticket, while parked in front of my own home.

Can we say ironic?

(Or… who’s reading my blog??)

And if you really want a good dose of irony, plus probably a good laugh, check out what I was up to two days before my registration payment was due.

Haha.

Ha.

Ahhhhhhh.

Ok, phew. Now that’s… priceless.

Actually it’s about $268 or so worth of pricelessness.

Here is where in my past life I might call myself a “loser.” If I did that now, however, it would only be as a means of pointing out that I sometimes have a tendency to lose things. Including my concentration. Or my desire to deal with details like registration tabs. This can be costly.

But this is only one part of me.

I think it’s time to go look out my window at the gently falling snow and remember something I happened to read this morning.

Fortunately, over the years, I’ve come to learn that the person who probably needs this “gentleness” most is myself.

So we’re starting there. Gentleness.

And humor.
