STRIKING GOLD

Like it or not (and I don’t…), we’re down to the last few golden days of summer. As much as we can, R-kids and I are making the most of it by spending our time being summerish. Or at least being together.

Here’s what that meant for us on Saturday… First, while R-boy attended a boy’s-dream birthday party (all competition, all the time), R-girl and I shopped for some pretty wardrobe essentials, and then enjoyed our own little lunch at Three Squares. Once we got R-boy back in the car, we all headed on a mini road trip to the famed Gold Rush Days in Oronoco, Minnesota, a huge annual flea market/antique festival. Getting there was half the fun. It was a beautiful drive through ninety minutes of rolling fields (ok, 45 minutes by the time we got out of the cities) and the whole way there we listened to Voyage of the Dawn Treader, our latest Narnia story on CD (can’t wait to see the movie this Christmas!). I’m not kidding when I tell you the book ended just as I put the car in park. Satisfying.

As for the rest of our afternoon and evening, it looked a bit like this:

Yeah, we struck gold, at least when it comes to finding a couple rich moments side by side.

Plus, we all came home with some little treasures. R-girl picked up a vintage tiara and an old candy tin. R-boy bought himself some retro comic books, which he read all the way home. I bought a few goodies too, to fit a theme in R-house that you’ll see more of soon:

It was a good day.

Here’s to making the most of this sweet season.
