Have you met my latest (FREE) find from the side of the road?? It’s taken a few months to find just the right home for it, but I’m finally ready to introduce you:
Ok, since you pushed.
This little vintage cabinet was sitting with a pile of other metal cabinets outside my local Salvation Army when I visited with a friend recently. Nothing in the stack was priced, so we inquired inside. Apparently the whole lot had been left there that morning, and the manager was in the process of hauling it all to the dumpster. He told us to have at it—it would make his job that much easier.
Oh. And we could have it for free.
I’m not sure why a vintage gem dumped by the front door is considered “trash,” when an 80s sweater brought to the back is a “donation,” but I’m not complaining.
The problem at that point, for my friend and I, became who takes what.
Being two true Minnesota girls, we stood there in the freezing cold and volleyed our no-really-you-take-it arguments back and forth. I mean, my friend spotted this nursing-supply cabinet first. It was rightfully hers. And she’s a nurse! How appropriate!! But, in the end, she sacrificed the cabinet for the sake of continued marital bliss (so as to avoid the “where in the world are we going to put that it doesn’t even match our house” conversation), nabbed a few other metal beauties instead, and gave me her blessing (thank you, M!!!).
She is a better woman than I. Perhaps it’s good I’m not married.
Anyway, I happily lugged home my find, dusted it, scrubbed it, and added it to my workbench.
I still haven’t sewed a stitch up here at the sewing/crafting studio workbench, but at least I’m all stocked up.

Perhaps I’ll have myself in stitches eventually.
