Today is the first day Jack can buy
spray paint,
body piercings,
and lottery tickets
by himself.

It’s the first day
he can get the key to his own
hotel room,
or house.

It’s the first day
he’s eligible for
a credit card,
a tattoo,
and a marriage.

And it’s also
the first birthday
of his last year
of high school.

Which means it might be
the last birthday
he has to take the garbage out
around here.

Depending on how things go.

Happy 18th birthday, Jack.

Here’s to all the exciting firsts and lasts you have to look forward to in the coming year!! I can’t wait to see where 18 takes you.

P.S. Also, because I’m your mom and it’s my blog post, here’s a quick run-through of all your first days of school. xxxxoooo

Watch out, world. He’s coming for you.
