MARCHING ON

We made it to March, people. Thank the heavens above. (Now if the heavens above could just send us some days that feel a little more March-y???)

To kick off the month, and in honor of National Women’s History Month, Heather whipped up the latest edition of the Both/And calendar. I relate to her words, don’t you? Who knows where I’d be if not for the good women who have walked before, behind, and alongside me in my life.

And I’m liking this phrase: Our history is our strength.

As I have been watching some hard chunks of my life fade further into the past, I find myself feeling very grateful to be able to call them history. And, although I am not always happy about this point, I am fully aware: Those chunks of my life—and the sheer act of will it took to keep walking through them—have made me stronger.

This is true of every woman I know. Or at least the ones who face their lives head on. Our history makes us stronger.

With that in mind, after I had printed the black-and-white version of Heather’s calendar and sat down at my handy-dandy typewriter to add some names, the names that came out were not people… I was naming the ways we women have been strong over time. And the ways we will be tomorrow.
