Some sources say this painting is called
Visions of Distant Shores.
Others say it’s called
Waiting for Him.
Either way, a painter named Frank
put oils to canvas to create this scene
back in 1880.
Either way, it’s
a sweet, compelling, mesmerizing depiction
of waiting,
expecting,
searching,
wondering,
dreaming,
hoping.
Either way,
that resonates with me.
Which is why
I paid a neighbor $5
so I could take this beat up old print
from her garage,
haul it home on my bike,
and prop it up
in the screen porch.
Because there’s always more out there.
And I think it’s worth looking for.

Speaking of looking for more, I found this painting at our yearly neighborhood garage sale extravaganza. Wanna see a couple other things I’ve found in that treasure trove over the past five years?
Our 1950s pink kitchen appliances (yes!) and stainless steel table
The typewriter box that has become the R-house theme
The original retro diner tabletops that are now my office desktops
Random assorted extras
And much more
Which is why the first Saturday in June is one of my favorite Saturdays of the year.
