Well, well, well…
Crissy tagged us over a week ago with her really-great challenge.
It’s Friday morning at 12:35 a.m. and I’m taking a short break from the work deadlines to report back in on my tag.
So here I am.
I am not a procrastinator.
Nope. Not me.
I just actually do not have this system figured out. At all.
That basket up above? It’s one of several places I have stashed R-kids’ artwork and homework and precious little papers, including this file drawer that’s now too full to open without something falling out:
It would be so great if I could say that I have these baskets, boxes, and drawers organized by age. Or child.
Oh my gosh, wouldn’t that be so great?
Fact is, I’m not even exactly sure at this moment where the other boxes of precious memories are. Could be in the attic. Or the closet. Hmmm. Not sure.
So I am loving the tips and ideas that I’ve heard flowing over on the sister blogs in this week. Keep ’em coming, friends!!
Speaking of tips, I will say I do have one friend who takes pictures of her kids holding their artwork—and even video taping them showing it off. Or maybe she does it without the kids. Either way, cute. And way less space-consuming.
And I guess I can say that I do have a few questions I ask myself when I finally get around to weeding through these piles (which I do, eventually, believe it or not). Such as:
– Is this artwork/homework basically a carbon copy of what everyone in the whole class did? If so, I toss it. I only keep things that highlight the personality and creativity of my kids.
– Is this something that we’ve got zillions of? (Like weekly spelling tests or math worksheets.) If so, I keep one from each grade and toss the rest. Or I keep one from the beginning of the school year and one from the end, to get a glimpse of the progression of their handwriting and spelling skills.
– Is this something I could display on the walls or ceiling of my unfinished attic closet so we can enjoy it now? If so, I do.
My ultimate plan is to narrow these multiple boxes down into one Rubbermaid container for each of the kids. I personally have enjoyed rifling through a few stacks of my own childhood memories, even with one or two 3-D items. There’s something about the touchy-feely-ness of it. Ma and Pa are pretty tidy people and if they somehow managed to save a few of my things, I figure I can wing this somehow.
Ok I literally just fell asleep twice while typing this, and to try to help you not fall asleep while reading it, I’m going to sign off now.
Thank you, thank you reader-friend Crissy for tagging us!! I am loving the tips I’m hearing from everyone else, and I especially love seeing that other people have some pretty big piles too. I’m feeling inspired to get some of this mess organized.
And, Crissy, I’m so curious. Did you get any ideas this past week or so that you might implement with your own basket?? Do tell!
