CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITY

I already knew I liked the International Baccalaureate® (IB) program that R-kids have been working their way through for the past five school years.

I like that it’s internationally minded.

I like that it’s about solving problems, not being spoon fed.

I like that it encourages creativity. And writing. Lots of writing.

I like that it’s about being inquisitive, principled, knowledgeable, caring, well-balanced.

But last night, at a meeting about the IB Diploma program R-girl is about to start, I heard a phrase I hadn’t exactly heard before.

I learned that the IB program was founded in the 1960s

to encourage students

to consider the possibility

that others

could be right.

Now I know why I like it so much.
