I’m on a little roll.
Emphasis on little.
What I mean is that lately when I walk into a thrift store or an estate sale or—soon!—a garage sale, I’m not so much taken by the big statement pieces (unless of course I should happen to find that REALLY BIG ONE).
I’ve been far more enchanted by the small stuff.
Especially any type of old, dog-eared printed material—and every small stash of tiny, repetitive randomness. My favorite finds come with a history. I’m somewhat addicted to the type of things that, were they sitting on my studio workbench at just the right moment, could possibly inspire an off-the-wall usage.
Sometimes I know what these items are.
Some I may actually use.
But the beauty of it is…
These little treats are serving multi-purposes: 1) They are the cheapest things at the estate sales and no one else wants them—so I can load up on goodies without deflating my wallet; 2) I’m a wing-it kind of project girl, so having lots of options around when inspiration hits is best for me; 3) I share a bedroom with my studio workbench and I can’t think of a decor I’d rather have right now; and 4) They make me smile.
As do the containers in which they are stored. (All the colored pencils in R-house have now found a home in that cute, vintage, aqua metal box. Makes me want to color!)
Besides. You never know when something might come in handy. For instance one might need a map of London when one is attending the Royal Wedding.
Dang. I didn’t attend the Royal Wedding. Oh well, I’ll hang onto it in case I ever do!
Here’s to enjoying the small stuff.
In all its lovely forms.
